In addition to the normal escorts, there are other ships used by every race. Right now, the transport is the one we're familiar with, but there are others.
1. System Defense Ships. These cost 20 points only! They have 1 shield, hull point, and turret, 5 armor, and 15cm speed, along with a 30cm range Front/Sides Strength 3 Macrobattery. This could be useful as an escort that stays with capital ships and provides extra firepower, while not undertaking the recon missions escorts usually do.
2. Defence Monitors. These cost 60 points. They have 1 hull point, TWO shields, 6 armor, 2 Turrets, and only 10cm speed. Along with a Front/Side strength 8 weapons battery and Front strength 1 prow lance, both at 30cm. This takes the previous ship to the extreme, with all the costs and benefits thereof.
3. Fire ships. These cost 10 points. They have 1 hull point, 1 shields, 1 turret, 5 armor, and move at 15cm. They have no weapons, but if they ram, they do MASSIVE DAMAGE (instant kill on escorts) to anything in the blast radius.
4. Escort Carriers. These cost 60 points. They have 1 hull point, 1 shield, 2 turret, 5 armor, and 15cm speed. They have two launch bays and a strength 2 15cm range Front/Side macrobattery. This is interesting for providing strikecraft to lacking fleets, and serving as a VERY vital escort. I can see people putting a lot of effort into protecting them.
5. Armed Freighter. For 20 points, these are transports with an EXTRA 15cm on their weapons, and 50% more firepower than normal freighters. The price is you need to buy at least two, since they carry only half as much equipment.
6. Heavy Transports. The Freighters you love, but now in cruiser size! They share a similar profile to the standard transport, along with it's main armament, but have 6 hull, 2 shields, and 2 turrets, and have an extra PAIR of strength 3 macrobatteries firing on each side.
7. Q-Ship. For 60 points, you add a 'transport' that doesn't carry cargo, but instead has the improved weapons of the Armed Frieghter, a 30cm strength 1 Prow Lance on top of that, and an extra turret. This would be the easiest addition to the game, because it's supposed to look like a normal transport.
I think all of these ship types are great and would add some nice variety to the game. I'd love to see them added to all races.

escort carrier seems really easy to abuse
i would love to see fire ships for chaos, in the lore it is a pretty common strategy for chaos to capture a civilian ship fill it up with explosives and cultists and then use it as basically like the iconoclast are used now, as disposable probes
dont think eldar would use that strat tho
doesnt seem a good idea to just add them for all races
the LC sized escort seems really powerful for orks, sure no favors and probably no bonkers mek but with orks main weapon being their ship

Not really, they pop just as easily as any other escort but are still expensive.
Which makes them huge targets.

Orks are already rediculously powerful because their ships are so cheap. The LC Escort would be a downgrade because it's not as good as the already cheap Ork LCs.

and i assume 60pts was old TT value so how much would that actually be in this game
95? any less and you are killing hellbringers or carrier orks, eldar might do fine but tau would be slaughtered
my ork lc's are as expensive as my chaos lc's, ork ships are only cheap if you build them to be and if you do you end up relying on cheap cheeze like novaspam to win
again it depends on how cheap, less then 85 it might be worth it, less then 80 completely broken, more then 85 and its a waste of time for the devs because nobody will use it

I guess he meant the escorts as they are in teh game right now, not dedicated lore (and real world) escorts.

slow escorts could indeed help balance that a lot
