Preliminary Ships Liost?

Postby Drakausa » 11 January 2016, 22:49

Would it be possible for someone to post a preliminary list of ships which are or probably are going to be in initial release? Maybe list their type (Battleship. Cruiser, etc...). Plus any details about a ship you feel it would be ok to list?

Also would be grateful for a list of the names of some of those ships in each race. Some of them mentioned here and there are downright awesome and an aspiring player 'wants to know!'.

I suggest you look on the forum for an old thread titled 'ships you most look forward to' as well as a good look at lexicanum lists.
I know this isn't exactly telling you what will be at release, but nothing can be guaranteed this early on.

I recommend to make yourself familiar with the different ship classes from the era and setting of the game however, it may come in handy (nudge nudge ;) ).

Aye. Imperial naming conventions are normally based around religious or patriotic themes. Chaos warships being named based on hellish and daemonic themes. Ork and Eldar vessels I tend to not give much attention to in terms of names.

Got a favourite/most anticipated ship class from what you found?

Since I do not know what classes or types of ship classes that will be implemented then I will just say that the Ultramarine vessels are my favorite. With so many models in my game box, Chaos and Imperial, I also have that company of Ultramarines we played long ago. Therefore just pick out any of the Ultramarine (Adeptus Astartes) ships and I will certainly be eager to play (get in close, board and storm yaaay!!!).

Well, based on the types of ships that participated in the gothic war posted in wh40k wikipedia, i assume the list of present imperial ships will be as follows:
battleships:
-Emperor-Class
-retribution-Class
Battlecruisers:
-Mars-Class
-Overlord-Class
Cruisers:
-Lunar-class
-Tyrant-Class
-Dominator-Class
-Gothic-Class (Obviously!!)
-Dictator-Class (like the Lord Solar Macharius!)
Light Cruisers:
-Dauntless-Class
Frigate squadrons:
-Sword-Class
-Firestorm-Class

Undoubtedly, the ship i am most interested to see is the Dictator-Class, since it features prominently in gothic-war novels. I wouldn't mind to name my captain Semper and my ship Lord Solar Macharius (btw my second tabletop game favourite heroe figure after Comissar Yarrick).

LOL! I ordered the novel including the Dictator class ship Lord Solar Macharius and Captain Semper and have just reached the space battle with all those ORK ROKs. So no 'spoilers' please. The BFG:2002 Annual did say that the Lunar class cruisers were the most common and possibly a squadron of those type of cruiser were reputed to be the ones that torpedoed Abbadons Planet Killer ship (he was not with it at the time). Unconfirmed kill however.

The Dominator and Tyrant classes are my favourites in the cruiser category.
Each can do Massive damage at close range, Dominator gets a Nova cannon and the Tyrant is extremely sturdy for cruiser and makes for an excellent escort compliment for a Retribution battleship.

Gothic class is kind of weedy (without support)... range is lacklustre and is poorly armoured for an Imperial vessel, but good for killing escorts.
Dictator... I have mixed feelings for, concomitant cruiser, but I'm not a fan of strike craft-heavy fleets. I like big ships that do big damage and batter the crap out of enemy fleets.
And Lunar, always a solid choice. Can do just about anything you can expect from a cruiser.

That's how I would rate the cruisers you named in that list.
