The Gal'leath class battleship (known as the Explorer among the Imperials

The Gal'leath class battleship (known as the Explorer among the Imperials) was the first major interstellar vessel developed by the Tau. Compared to the average speed of an Imperial ship in the warp, the Explorer could barely approach a fifth of this speed. It is also significantly less well armed and armoured, compared to most battleships. It does have a massive cargo capacity, however, and is much cheaper to produce than other ships of similar tonnage. Indeed, it was only the advent of war with the Orks that finally made the Tau design an alternate vessel for interstellar combat, a role which the Explorer is ill suited to undertake alone.

Configurations

The Explorer has undergone many different refits and reconfigurations since its inception. The two most common that are still active within the Kor'vattra are the Mk XXIII Vash'ya and the Mk XXIV Bor'kan configurations.[1]
Vash'ya Configuration

The more popular design incorporates a multi-arc prow Railgun battery, and the capacity to field eight squadrons of attack craft as well as escorts that do not have Gravitic Drives via its three Gravitic Hooks.[1]
Bor'kan Configuration

This arrangement utilises two of the flight bays to house drone controllers, allowing the ship to use Tau torpedoes.

This could be a cheaper version of the Custodian.

Kir'qath (Defender) Class Starship

Kass'l (Orca) Gunship

Given all of these ships are inferior Imperial-inspired attempts to create warships, I'd say it isn't likely.
They would have no boarding, horrible Armour, poor damage, not particularly fast; the only real advantage you would have is firing arcs and range.

In the Lore, the Hero Class was outclassed by the Lunar in every respect bar range.
That does not sound like a good cruiser to have in this game, given the Lunar never sees play as it is.

Yeah they are a thing in 40K.
F*cking old and F*CKING HUGE armored beasts of ships with no shielding of any kind. Just meter after meter of Armour.

Now only used in the Navies strategic reserve as battering rams or carrying experimental weapons that often run the length of the Ironclad that carries it.

But despite that, I think that the Tau would at least consider the prospect of rearming the Ga'leath battleships with newer weapons and armor, or at least some grav hooks, after all they are battleship size ships, there's a lot that'd go to waste if they only were to recylce them, plus the tau don't have near the production capabilities of some of their opponents.

And if not for a lore perspective, I would like the Ga'leath for the sake of gameplay, another tau BB would be very welcome in my opinion, especially one that is a bit cheaper than the Custodian

Trust me you really don't want the Explorer BB. It's cheap garbage as far as BBs go.
Really slow, really fragile, very vulnerable for a ship of its size.

When I said for the sake of gameplay, I also meant tuned so it would actually have some semblance of usefulness

I really hope they add in the old classes. Yeah, they're slightly worse stat wise, but whatever they're SO GORGEOUS. Oh man the pictures online really do them a disservice. They had such style, so unique. Much better than the flying wings of the current batch IMO.

Custodian needs 400 points , so in my opinion a cheaper and weaker ship like Explorer for 180 will not break the balance.

just like my self sitting over here asking about other IN ships like grand cruisers which are old them selves.. I didn't realize we were only seeing the FW fleet.. I was looking forward to seeing the Explorer and Hero modeled.. My though is that it still is something that can be used for playing this game is a decent representation of TT, but its not a 100% accurate port over.. I don't see a reason some other types of measures couldnt be taken to make them more usable.

If you want a not too expensive BB for Tau, you have the good old Stronghold which will outclass Explorer everytime of the day

what shocks me is that, the TT version, stronghold costs 350 points, Custodian costs 330

That is because this games Custodian is significantly more powerful than the table top version and this is exacerbated by synergistic upgrades.

Where as the Stronghold is severally limited by lack of crew points (and auto disengage) and access to 1 Favour which gives little benefit for cost (removes auto disengage) and spawns Drows.

Lack of crew points is a huge penalty and one that should be rid of (at least with Water caste) with a small increase in cost to 230ish. Even then it would hardly be broken.
