Lost in the warp?

Postby Restayvien » 31 August 2016, 10:43

If I remember my Tau lore correctly, they don't use warp travel. Is that still the case? If so, 'Lost in the Warp' should either be removed as a racial benefit, or updated to reflect some other kind of anomaly or event. This also has implications when it comes to the 'warping out' gameplay mechanic, though I appreciate this could be problematic to address.

Perhaps you could explain it away by saying Tau can make short 'hops' which have enough range to get them out of a battle, and then just change the warping-out effect like you have with the Eldar webway.

Or in the extreme, you could make it so that Tau can only disengage by flying off the edge of the map. Quite a serious disadvantage, but that would be offset by never getting lost in the warp and not instantly warping-out when they flee (they could fly towards the nearest edge, firing on targets as they go).

tau do use warp travel
very limited, small hops into the warp, never really entering the warp just skimming along the edge, similar to the eldar webway (in a very abstract manner), less in the warp more on the border of the warp
the mechanics should be the same as regular warp travel in the game, tyranids will need a new warp out mechanic but tau should be fine
on lost in the warp, they might not get lost "in" the warp but they can just get lost, thrown out of the warp in the middle of dead space far in between stars with no easy way of entering it again or even finding which direction they should go in
maybe dont have the warpclouds but just empty void, pure blackness with not even a dot of light in the distance as the background while "lost in the warp" ?maybe?

as long as they dont have the warp graphics in the background im fine with it
they never really enter the warp, only just skimming over the surface before being pushed out again, but that also means they dont need gellerfields for that kind of travel, which also means they dont have gellerfields
and while tau are soulless nothings to daemons, if they have even one "human helper" , kroot or vespid on board on a ship without gellerfields they will get possessed and that daemon can not be killed... ever
the warp flowing freely into it with no restrictions, feeding it with infinite energy to grow
they wouldnt get lost in the warp, but they could just get lost, needing time to find their bearings and fly back
basically: same mechanic, different background

Basically this, yeah. They just need a different animation like elfdar.

Please help me change skirmish to be customisable. Its very important for PVE players.

viewtopic.php?f=3&t=515 Mod idea.
