To smurf or not to smurf?

Discuss the Space Marine fleet. There is only the Emperor, and he is our shield and protector.

I'd paint my next batch of marines up like that but I'm currently leaning in a "Samurai" direction for em

I'd love to have:

Imperial Fists with upgrades linked to hating weakness and repairing the ships
Raven guards with upgrades linked to stealth and lightning strikes
Salamanders related to causing fire criticals even on failed boardings
blood angels / Space wolves for lots of boarding actions
Dark angels with deathwing strikes
White scars about mobility

What About the Black Templars they're a fleet based chapter built for Attrition.

I think the black templars tend to be forgotten about by a lot of people due to their second founding status :(

Eh... I still remember when every other Space Marine army was a Black Templars army. Too many freakin' Emperor's Champions.

I think one First Founding legion/chapter is still missing -- Iron Hands -- the siege masters.
I'm assuming you've already gotten the vanilla marines.

historicly speaking, there are 4 chapters that have been refered to as "the big 4" the Ultramarines, Space Wolves Dark Angels and blood angels. these are likely prospects. for favors. but not the only ones.

of those 4 I could see Ultramarines not being on the list as they're somewhat generic. meanwhile we know Grey Knights strike cruisers are special so they could make Grey Knights one of the favors.

they may also choose to focus on the chapters confirmed to have played a major role in the gothic war. looking at the notable strike cruisers and battle barges of the gothic war, that'd be exorcists, white consuls, red talons and imp fists.

this is ALSO assuming that the favors are for other chapters and we don't get "favor of the Librarius, favor of the armory, favor of the reclusiarchim" etc

Iron Hands, White Scars and Raven Guard have never been included in a game (except as possibly skins in Ultramarines or colour options for DoW) to my knowledge.

Iron hands are often forgotten and could bring interesting favour.
Grey knights could also have very interesting bits because they're pretty unique
Black templars are a "space chapter", but I have no idea what they could bring.
Dark angels look cool.
Salamanders are the most "good guys" you can find for the SM, always trying to protect civilians. I'd really like them to be included.

I think a way to not break the fans should be to make favors based on special units (Terminators / Davastators / Assaults / Scouts) like that everyone can make his own chapter color when fleet painter will be here

Also, let's not forget that in cases where you lose your fleet, instead of "defeat" message you should get "your chapter has been wiped out" and the admiral profile should be deleted :D. Also, you only have a limited number of boarding torpedo shots you can miss :D (seriously, can anyone explain to me how sending one of the only 1000 members of the chapter in a torpedo through space is a good idea? I see it working with Orks, but SM... apart from the overall fact that a functional combat unit that is only 1000 strong is ridiculous at 40k scale).

Never underestimate the power of a Games Workshop Marty Stu Faction. :D
