First time with orks.

Postby sjaugust1 » 27 April 2016, 16:21

So after getting to admeral level 8 with chaos I decided to give orks a try.
Not exactly knowing what to build I just made 3 light cruisers with torps and kannons. Mainly since lotsa guns looks like garbage and I'd rather not have prow only damage at 3k range.
So so far my only strategy is if its alive shoot boarding torpedoes at it. If it's still alive shoot more boarding torpedoes at it. Maybe ram from time to time. Activate taunt and waaagh!.

Anyway it worked for my first match with no major damages to my ships. But I'm pretty sure I'm missing something here. Can't be as easy as spamming boarding torpedoes all day every day.
Advise on playing and building an ork fleet?

actually in early low point games/early lvls orks are fairly strong, your biggest enemy is chaos

on basha LC's its actually preferable to run mega kannonz over torps and have lotsa gunz broadsides for eldar, set them up with savage gun ship escorts or if vs eldar onslaughts

however at the end of the day, torp lauchas are good too cause no one wants to get hit by ork boarding torps so it comes to a matter of playstyle

Mix up the torp spam :) throw ordinary ones about at very close range. Pivot upgrade on Orks is a godsend, also. Always ram. Always. If you have a chance to ram or a chance to avoid, go for the ram. You're very slow as orks so avoiding can be hard.

Mega Kannons on the prow are very RNG. I wont deny that. however:

WHEN they hit. on the rare chance. Kaboom. quite a nice chunk of damage.

people say its quite sucky, but please try it for yourself. I play Orks quite "Fluffily" If i want to Play to win, well... I dont. lol. Play for fun. (Whats fun for me might not be for you however) - i never take myself seriously if im Kaptinin' Da Orks. My game tends to go to crap if it try to take it seriously with them.

Battlecruiser.

Cruiser.

Then ramships. nothing but ramships. 4 ramships-a-ramming = one dead LC class. (For Chaos, IN, Orks. Eldar however... make that LC a cruiser. :P) Go for the upgrade that makes order last longer, pop Brace fer' impact, line up the shot and hit that big red button & repair. You'll get two rams in (FOR EACH RAMPSHIP) under the order activation. Maybe three if you take the fuel gauge recharge upgrade too.

Well, that definitely take Head Bashing on a whole another level.

Well I do know I'll get at least one more light cruiser slot so I'll throw the mega cannon on that and see how it performs.
Yeah eldar will probably be a problem although I'm not sure how dealing 1damage every other second is going to help much. Even with their paper thin hulls.
I'm going to assume ork carriers just don't hold a candle to my chaos carriers so a wall of torpedoes sounds like my best chance vs the eldar. Outside of getting a lucky ram in. Think eldar hardcounters ork in many ways.

orc carriers are bad simply because all their ordinance is weak so all you use them for is fighter screens, and your have to use up a kustomization point which results in even weaker broadsides

Played about 5 more games with orks: dear Christ they're slow! Not just in ship speed but attack speed as well. Especially with range and accuracy being so low. Makes me feel like ork dps is dependent on number of ships focusing one target. 2v2 hasn't been my friend lately.

I didn't play much with Orks (maybe to level 5 in the MP Beta) but I found that until you're able to equip traktor beam and taunt you're going to have a really tough time focusing anything. Everyone moves and maneuvers faster than you so my strategy usually was to get as close as possible and make things as confusing as possible for the enemy player. With MWJ usually a single ship could get away so I was finding I had to get my ships in between all of their ships and shoot and try to do as much damage as possible to whatever targets presented themselves and in were range. Ram whatever you can, board whatever you can, rather than chase someone who's going to get away, turn your broadside to something you can actually hit and hope your mega kannonz do some good work.

Which just shows a horrible balance if you always have to take THAT Skill and THIS Favor to make an entire faction somewhat work.

You are confusing diversity with balance.

Faction X valuing skill A and B so it can compete with Faction Y who values skill C and D is asymmetrical balance.

If all factions have equal preference for all available equipment, then there is really only one faction named and modeled differently. Still balanced but homogeneous.

DOTA heroes. Different heroes prefer different items. The game is balanced as is humanly possible.
BFGA factions. Different factions prefer different builds.

Is it linear maybe even shallow ? yes.
Some like it some don't
Those who do, they play the game
Those who don't, well ... we know what they do.
