I like to think of them as bonus crit chance weapons. Most of them have a 4%+ crit rate compared to the 1 or 2%+ crit rate of other weapons on chaos ships.

He's saying the the missile pods as of right now are virtually useless, and the only thing of worth they accomplish is being a very nice visual effect.

I can confirm he is correct on this, the missile pods are very very weak by themselves, and there was really no point in the devs adding them to the ships if they got nothing accomplished.

That amount of crit on a slow firing, and apparently poor accuracy weapon is never going to amount to anything.

So recently I put some effort into this ship, surprisingly (or not) on high level this can be a hard hitting and flexible tool for your battles depending on the upgrades you put in, let me share the experience with fans of Chaos battleships

after reaching level 8 with the Desolator, I found the torpedoes being one of the best assets of this ship. The torps help you to keep the initiative, and are deadly in combination with a turn rate upgrade of 10°

with a strengthened hull and increased shields it became a good brawler and that is where the torpedoes shine, getting fired from a range of <5000 , it´s the Desolators unique selling point

So it is a good brawler then? Its very good, but as every other ship under heavy fire it cannot hold out the whole match. When things get too hot it is possible to get out with the MWJ or the Auto-Gauge-Refill (or ideally with both), the Desolator can continue the fight from afar, replenish its shields, reorganize, then get in again. The extra boost also enables the ship to evade some enemy bombers or assault ships.

As a favor I took the Nurgle upgrade to compensate for its low crew level (maxed out heretek and possessed gunner) to give it an edge in close combat, love it! Fire a few broadsides, get closer, fire torpedoes, do some boarding, ram to finish off or retreat, repeat. Some smaller ships on your tail? Do a quick turn to smash the insects :lol:, an escort or light cruiser cannot not last for long face to face

Of course people can say that you can put these upgrades into every other (battle-) ship and that the value for money/renown is smaller than with the Despoiler or a Retribution (or a heavy cruiser). I wouldn´t object this. This is end game stuff, when most of the ships maxed out and people play what is most fun

your paying essentialy 60-70 or so more points just for an archaon with torps

the only torpedo laucher in the entire chaos fleet

1 wave of torpedos is not scary

Just a little nitpick, there is an escort with torp launcher. So Desolater isn't the only one with it.

It can be useful, but yeah the major advantage is that its tougher than the Archeon.

However, the Depoiler is just better in my opinion right now.

Yeah a crappy infidel torp boat. Expensive and doesnt do shit really and who is gonna honestly spend points on a torp boat that is micro intense when you are better off just trying to squeeze out that extra cruizer or have points to spare for the iconoclast as a scout.

But when arrive new pach for fix this desolater ?( i love too much this ship and i'm not change for despoiler (bug ship too much damage XD)) i hope soon...
