Struggling Against Eldar

Postby Ars Moriendi » 29 July 2016, 03:42

Hey guys,

A few weeks ago I started playing 1v1 regularly, where previously I really only played 2v2 with friends, and I've had a reasonable degree of success with both Chaos and Space Marines. Honestly, I haven't been totally frustrated playing against any of the factions except Eldar, even post pulsar nerf, so I figured I should ask for some advice since I haven't managed to win a single 1v1 game playing against Eldar.

I'm going to make some kind of attempt at describing why I find playing against Eldar so difficult, so bear with me here. :P

The Voidstalker seems to me to be, almost indisputably, the best battleship in the game. It's faster than Slaughters and Hellbringers with the Dragon Sail upgrade, and even after the pulsar nerf the sheer number of pulsars on the thing ensures that it can still shred most ships in 2 or 3 volleys once shields go down.

Otherwise it seems to be pretty well carrier spam. The issue here is that Eldar ships are vastly faster than their counterparts from every other faction, but it particularly hurts when your ships are 150 speed or less. That combined with their vastly superior maneuverability means that I've found it almost impossible to catch their ships even when you try to box them in by splitting up and so forth. It gets especially frustrating during convoy or breakthrough missions, given that they can easily fly around the edges of the map until they've either whittled your ships to death or you make a mistake and they simply catch you out of position, dancing around your clumsy ships and leaving you hopelessly in the dust. Lances might be a reasonable counter to this phenomenon except that holofields make a joke of them. Carriers and boarding torpedoes should theoretically work too, but the Eldar apparently have the best fighters in the game and it certainly seems that way. I haven't managed to cripple a single engine in all of the games I've played - in fact, I don't recall crippling any subsystem at all.

I have had too much of an issue actually detecting the Eldar ships. In a nutshell, the problem is that between Vaul's Maneuvre and that speed boost they get thanks to Solar Sails, they're eminently capable of keeping you at long range, where the weapons that are actually effective against Eldar are worthless and the options you have are likewise ineffective.

Apologies for the length of the post, but what am I doing wrong here?

Best way to deal with eldar is to use stealth and beacons. Do not play in their favor. As chaos you have the tools to do this. I go with a 4 hellbringer 1 carnage build with escorts as pulsar sponges and distraction force. The majority of my damage comes from the LCs and the slannesh N KHORNE mark to prevent them from using their pulsars and vaulS. This build works perfect for eldar. I will submit a screen shot on how my LCs are set up.

Chaos is the best race to make eldar Queef themselves to death so no worries ; D

Never stop chasing them, especially the voidstalker. it's the slowest eldar ship and if not fully leveled it is relativly easy to track and hunt down. Bring hellbringers with probes and slaanseh favour for this. This will prevent them using the speed boost and all other ordnances. Microwarpjump on top of them and try to ram them. If you manage to hit them they are almost done. Beware of their bombers, they are the best and can really ruin your day with a few runs. Run silent or hide in a cloud if you see bombers heading your way, this will stop them and they will return. Don't let the eldar player hang around, try to hinder them from playing their game. Hit full speed ahead when you identified one and ram them. Bring a manouvere gauge refill upgrade to hunt them even longer. Always chase them and ram them!

Good Luck!
