Stealth carriers a thing?

Postby varys » 29 December 2016, 00:08

hi all,

I'm fairly new here but have spent the week playing the chaos fleet with carrier setups and wondered if anyone else has experimented with running them stealth?

if you take the tzeench favor, and the upgrades for engine boot not revealing you + run silent lasts 100% longer coupled with the speed of the ships you can essentially sit outside detection range of enemy ships and just pound them to death with bombers/boarding actions.

taking the 20% buff to carrier cool-down is nice to, as is a 3 point pilot crew (boarding actions need a little more specialisation) but couple this with the bomb that reduces enemy detection range and you can run silent for 90 seconds a pop wile just hammering everything

Please let me know your experiences or if you have anything else to offer to the overall idea of stealth setups

Yes, it is a thing. Running silent duration, refueling systems for aircraft, emission dissipation for boost while stealthed, these are all essential for a stealth fleet. 2 remaining upgrades are more flexible, I'd advise maybe shield upgrades, or perhaps +25% combustion gauge. Detection range increase isn't terrible either. For skills - engine refresh is a must, while other skill slots should be used for a mix of recon beacons and probes.

stealth carriers are one of the main ways to play chaos
might want to put some points into slaves as those reduce all cooldown
putting points into cultists to buff assault boats does not work
points in cultists raise troop value which is defense against boarding not offence
my advice would be to use bombers with chaos, assault boats are great for orks (and SM obviously) chaos not so much
at most the two assault boats per bay can deal 100dmg or temporary crits but they need to get trough troops first which at best vs eldar is a 50% chance
while chaos bombers can deal 90dmg with a 75% chance of succeeding because of AP with a 11% permanent crit chance (22%vs eldar i think)
all these after defensive fighters and turrets obviously
dont forget detection skills, more experienced players will know that as soon as you loose detection your bombers return, often even deliberately revealing a ship when they reach 12k to draw out your bombers to then run silent and have 30sec of safety
beacons are better then probes for chaos since a main weakness vs that build is someone cloudcamping
emmision dissipators are an essential upgrade but you seem to know that already
lastly, its not a very fast way of killing things making it vulnerable to navy and watercaste favors, wrecking the deck subsystem will prevent them being able to use that skill and halve their detection range as well as preventing them from running silent but you will still need to hurry to start, if you take your time to reach them it will often be to late already especially vs tau

It can work but any experienced player will prevent you from either bombing them or will just close you down and brawl.

Lances with stealth is a better option although you still lack the power to brawl.

Don't forget the torpedos, they are quite useful.

I like to take a slaughter or 2 with my tzeentch fleets (either lance or carrier). I kit them out with defensive upgrades and use them to intercept and push back anything threatening my squishier long range ships. A pair working together with auger disruptors can maintain your vision and hose up your enemy's for a long time too.
Orkz is never beatin in battle. If we win we win, if we die we die fightin so it don't count. If we legz it we don't die neither, so we can come back for annuver go, see!

There is always the option of walking down the middle by taking Devastation Class Cruisers as it can use both the lances & bombers while stealthed up. Does make fighting faster factions harder though as you lack the speed of the Harbringers.

Devs work well just for the fighter screens to protect your BCs. Slaughters on the other hand can be built to brawl once your BCs have softened up the enemy fleet.

I'd stay away from Chaos torps too, the BB can use them but aside from your escorts that's it. Best to go with lances/speed/stealth builds.
