PSA: Power Ram Upgrade

Postby Halstead » 01 May 2016, 16:59

For those who have not understand why only some ships have them; Look at the ship itself, if it does not have a protruding lance where the prow lance or NC would be, it cannot get the PR upgrade. That protruding lance is the power ram think of it like the power fist for WH40K armies and that only some troops are eligible for it.

I put one on my Retribution Class Battleship and named it "Saitama's Fist", hilarity ensues.

I find it funny that these ramming lances are on the original TT models but dont have any in game effect, looks cool though.

It does do something with an upgrade (should you choose to take it).
Just like the TT, where you paid an extra 15 (?) points for a power ram.

Hmmm, I dont remember the power ram being in the options for ships in the standard fleets, maybe it was a campaign system upgrade.

Well I don't know if you mean TT or in game, I'll assume in game: it was introduced a couple of patches back, IN ships can equip an upgrade for +50% ramming damage. It's even called 'power ram' and is (as OP pointed out) only available to ships that don't have Nova Cannons.

On the TT it existed as a standard upgrade that could be taken for a slight point increase.

This is also an upgrade from FFG's Rogue trader game.

5 points actually :) it adds 1 point of damage untop of the damage that you would normally roll for when ramming. And in the tabletop that was alot, specially since it was guarranteed for 5 points  1 point of ramming damage is akin to 100 points of hull damage in armada, so gaining +1 damage was actually quite a nice upgrade!

Im not sure if the little antenna was a power ram though? I always assumed they were little sensor probes or something

Serves a duel purpose: tricks opponents into believing the ship is eqiped with a Nova Cannon due to its similar appearance at range, and it's a ramming spike.

Also covered from base to tip in point-defence batteries.

I saw a few battleships with the power ram yesterday :| in one match I had the misfortune to send a Dauntless to close to it...

R.I.P. Bringer of Salvation. You were a good ship while you lasted
