Hull classification is old and convoluted. Battleships were once just B, Cruisers were C, Destroyers were D, etc pre-1920. They became BBs when the 'all big gun' dreadnoughts were launched to differentiate them from the older battleships. Cruisers became Armoured, so CA, which came to mean Heavy Cruiser as well as armoured and protected cruisers kinda meshed together.

We just use it since it's the most familiar and well, the USN may not have battleships anymore but they're still the largest navy in the (history of the) world.

OBB was used to refer to the predreadnought battleships in USN. O meaning old ship or second line.

Och, I was not aware of this historical connotations, I thought it was just meant to be abbreviation of word "Battleship". Thanks for clearing this up

Retribution is very good for PvE. Turn upgrade, Ramming, and AP Macros makes it a beast for all types of missions. In the campaign, you fight mostly against Chaos - the Emperor is way too slow to bring to most mission types (esp Planetary Defense). You end up with an under-leveled BB for the endgame.
In 700pts PvE, you can take Retribution, 2x Overlords, and a Dauntless Mk2. Serious close-range firepower to win your matches quickly.

PvP you probably want an Emperor. Its more important to keep your fleet concentrated, and since most of your matches will be Cruiser Clash the slow speed of the Emperor does not matter as much. 10-12.5k vision is very important, and the 4 squadrons can give you more options than a Retribution.

Also: the Adeptus Mechanicus upgrade now works. 5th skill shows up in the Favour ability slot in battle.
