SM on light cruisers with added lightning strikes to fight eldar and stuff.
Inquisition on carriers, to be sure to see what I'm attacking
And of course Ad Mech on big stuff with a specific build in mind.

That said I like having a single astartes dauntless for baiting boarding and chase down runners.

Inquisition is a nice favour, but tarot is a bit too random to be really good. It works wonders in convoy though.

The IN favour I really dislike. Having an ability start on CD encourages turtle play, as you get the most out of it by avoiding combat until you start spitting out cobra escorts, and I hate turtle tactics.

Just curious, but how is Inquisition too random?

Personally, I go Astartes on my brawlers (Dauntless, Doms) Admech on my Dauntless Mk2 and other ships I need the extra upgrade on (like short burn torps) and Inq on my carriers and some of my cruisers. I find Tarot great since I don't have to take as many scouting skills.

Revealing an escort is kind of a waste and you can't know what you reveal

Tarot is random if you blow it immediately at the start of the round, it's not as random if you save it for those times a kiting Chaos/Eldar line ships manages to go back to red blip status through various shenanigans.

i agree tarot is a tool best saved for later in the in engagement

i think have x2 skills on an LC with ad mech is more useful than having an addtional lighting strike and crew

its a great boost in utility

The thing is, LC lose their effectiveness in higher level engagements sometimes though you still need to take them because of points constraints.. but lightning strike is always the same. An additional upgrade is not that useful on an LC, though admittedly more skills never hurts. Having a fast boarder/lightning striker tends to be more handy in higher point matches, especially against Eldar and in objective based missions like assassination and data.

It doesn't hurt to have some LC with admech and some with SM. Hitting a void stalker with a massive lightning strike right out of the gate can basically win you the match.

really? i always felt that dauntlesses were all around good work horse ships

i never felt LC's of any faction thus far "fell off" per say

Chaos has little use for its LCs in most matchups, unless the player wants some fighter cover (a capability we don't have easy access to).

Dauntlesses, however, are great. I gave mine EIC + Overcharged/Taunt/Stasis/Beacon and it always has a place or role to play. The additional upgrade is nice too.

Their DPS and HP/Shields aren't quite on the level on a cruiser. You can get by with them, but a cruisers and BC generally have twice the firepower and more hp/shields.

I'm not saying LC are bad or even AM is a bad choice, just SM LC have a very specific tactical role that they can fill better than any other SM ship because of the LC's speed.

The survivability isn't so bad because of their cost; a Dauntless has 600 hull and 100 shield and costs ~67% of a Dictator cruiser, which has 800 hull and 200 shields; in other words, 67% of the cost for 70% of the survivability, that ratio actually favours the Dauntless. Plus it makes Hull and Shield Upgrades on the Dauntless quite cost-effective.

(Granted, the Dictator is the most expensive cruiser, but most of the Imperial cruisers are only a few points off).

It's harder to measure up the relative DPS because you have to make assumptions about Nova Cannons/Torpedoes....
