Reliable Cruisers as escort ships ?

Hello there, well several people talked about the "ranked" ,fair, "balance" , multiplayer and keep the game alive.


Problem is you can't by most factions rely on your ships, except the orcs escort savage ship.
It's the only working escort ship, that can actually do something.

If you fight vs Empire, Marines or Orcs, you can anytime just take a bunch of them and have fun wrecking the enemy fleet.

That's the point, as orc you can have always fun, fleet lost in warp and destroyed, no matter just spam some mission the savage gun ships and , you win actually pretty easy with them, because people don't know how to ram lol, and than your fleet is operational again.


Orcs.
They need simply escort Zzap ships. So you can face Eldar and Chaos.
Take the Basha Light Cruiser, remove all weapons and add just 2 Zzap for 120 credits.


Marines and Empire
So why not make out Dauntless Class Light Cruiser an Escort for 100 credits ,
he lacks just Ordnance Launch Bay 2 times and Prow Medium Torpedo Launcher.
Here you go anytime reliable.

Chaos.
Yes, the worst escorts.
I would make out of Slaughter a ship for 120 points.
Put there on Heavy Prow Lance and Twin-Linked Battery + Prow Light Torpedo Launcher.

Eldar.
Yeah difficult one.
Can't you just put on transport some real armour, 400 hp, not fragile and 3 Prow Pulsars for 140 points.

Anyway , what are your ideas ?

same, i like escorts as is, chaos could use a fire ship but thats it

I think the imperium idea of an LC escort is really nice, also the Chaos idea, I feel those two factions (and the space marines obviously), have the shittiest escorts of all, especially when compared to eldar escorts who can almost singlehandedly take out cruisers

I did think about it to free more ship slots. Not even sure if it would be ever possible.
CL- Remain the same, just purchasable as escorts. So can't be favoured or individually upgraded or levelled up.
CL slots: Now Cruiser slots.
Cruiser slots: Now battlecruiser slots.
Battlecruiser slots: Additional battleship slots.

Vanguards are truly in this game just beefed up escorts though.

In this game, escorts lacks there original purpose which is to divert fire from capital ships.
Escorts should have a specific feature making them "attract" some shots from allied capital ships if they are near it or a easier way to intercept shots if they arein the line of fire

They used to have exactly that feature back in the Alpha days, it worked for all ships, you could stick them into formations and they would equal speed and stay together.
Look at some old game play trailers and you can see it in action.

wouldnt that make target priority pointless?
currently escorts have a defense bonus vs macros and ignoring them is a really bad idea
achieving a similar result without screwing with control over your ships
or are you suggesting escorts are fast enough and has good enough sensors to intercept macro shells?

Formation system was removed because making capitals into formation + defensive skills made them nearly inkillable.
I don t remember in the TT but I think if you wanted to target a ship which wasn t the nearest, you had to do a Leadership roll.
Also when in formations, you could redirect some damages to other ships in same formation (I don t remember if it was official rules or just homemade ones)

To represent that, escorts at 2k range (for example) of a capital ship should have 20% (or a fix value like 1/4 of shots fired) to be the target of the shot (include lance/macros but not bombers/assaults).
Like that it won t make priority useless but escorts have a defensive roll and are not just suicide scouts

Imperium close range sensors are not bad, but their engines are not precise enough to intercept shells especially at close quarters. I think what he meant was the escorts always staying between the two ships with only the weapon ports of the protected ship visible, the escorts absorbing fire when the enemy tries to hit the bridge or the engines or such.
