So, yeah. Matchmaking is in a rough place. But instead of complaining about how it's hurting new players, why don't we do something about it in game? There's nothing forcing you to swing your battleship at someone who just barely ranked up. There's also nothing forcing you to wipe you opponents fleet when they try to flee. The few times I'm online, if my max level admiral comes up against someone lower level, I don't field my super ships. I'll offer advice for countering my tactics or better ways to play the current mission. Sure, I may lose a match that would be an easy win, but maybe that guy or girl I helped out will stick around and pay it forward. Toxic players are a bigger risk to the future of the game than poor matchmaking
Orkz is never beatin in battle. If we win we win, if we die we die fightin so it don't count. If we legz it we don't die neither, so we can come back for annuver go, see!

I should not have to "throw" matches or hinder myself from using all the tools at my disposal or what not because of a broken system

this is on tindalos to fix or atleast stop being stubborn about not on the community to play nice with one arm tied behind their back just so that new players can even have a chance
Chaos walking into Aldorf be like

I'm not saying totally throw the game. Just be a good sport. Of course I want Tindalos to fix the matchmaking, but until then I think we should make an effort to preserve and grow the community. If some kid walks into your game store and shows an interest in the tabletop, do you beat them to death with your rulebook? Of course not. They'll never come back. It's important to foster that interest until they can at least properly defend themselves. What's your alternative? Stat-bashing everyone that walks up, and then blaming the shopkeeper for no one coming in anymore?

We wait long enough for a match as it is. Then when we get in it, it more often than not is very one sided.

The amount of times I've waited for ages then when the game comes around I'm facing a dozen escorts that try to keep me busy whilst a couple of LCs are keeping their distance waiting to warp out. GG

Or when I'm leveling a new admiral I dump three crew into navigator so that I can run away from the level 10 fleets whilst I can only field LCs and CAs.

Waste of fucking time and it puts people off.

Get rid of the narrative and renown in multiplayer, it has no place here. We don't care about 40k being harsh etc, we want to play the fucking game.

I hear you. I'm not exactly thrilled about how multiplayer was implemented, but it is what it is. I think Tindalos is very aware of our concerns. They may change it, they may not. So what are our options? The way I see it is this, basically: Say fuck it and quit, ignore the issues and continue to swing hard at anyone/everyone, or treat it like a hobby and try to foster growth through good will. If our community is great towards new players, I think we'll see less returns. Less returns means a bigger budget for Tindalos to throw at our requests.

I think what your asking for is a pipe dream as this is the internet. I've had many insults whilst playing this, when I'm winning I get called a hacker or the salt is about cheese. When I've used my low level admirals against level 10 fleets I've received the "ez", "n00b" etc.

The fact is that if the new player experience is not pleasant, which at the moment due to the lack of matchmaking and the renown/destruction/lost in the warp mechanics, the new players will not hang around for the odd match against a high level fleet that lets them warp out.

This game will not attract a large player base to start with, once here only the die-hards will remain. Each new race brings back/in players but at the moment we are running at around 200 players playing. How many are in MP games? Added to that MP is split in two. I like the ranked mode, but the limit of renown puts a lot of people off. The best of three where certain modes favor certain races/builds put others off.

Scrap renown
All level 10 ships
Skills/abilities/favors/crew adds points to the ship cost
Cruiser Clash only
Public ladder that all are in
Profit

To be honest, I am one of those guys who played with underleveled ships, "offered the enemy mercy" when the battle was already lost for them and I talked with a lot of players ingame during these situations.

I don't remember the actual distribution, but almost halve of those new players just kept fighting and wanted to take out some of my ships to at least gain something out of the battle.
The rest "accepted the mercy", but they still thought that the whole situation sucked and were turned off big time.
Some people say that you learn a lot when facing better people, but that's just true up to a certain skill-discrepancy and one is usually beyond that line in my experience (regarding BFGA).

Thing is, that MM isn't only about the progression system, but also about skill level and experience.
Sure, there are experienced players who are pretty bad, but I am talking about those who put their experience to good use and against those and the ones with higher ships you are reliant on their "mercy", which sucks in itself.
The next thing is that you usually just get steamrolled, because one should never expect more than players taking under-leveled ships.
Actually reducing their "player skills" (speed, use of hotkeys, abilities, etc.) will hurt them long time, especially with how often those unfair games occur or occurred.
Yes, it is a selfish reason, but it won't be fun or fair for either side, no matter what people do to "play around" the system.

The whole "be nice to them, etc. and "everyone" will feel better" sounds good at first, but my experience shows that it hardly changes anything.
I play Orkz to collect all those salty Imperial tears

I want to play a game where I have a chance and my opponent has a chance. I don't want to either be roflstomped or roflstomp the other guy because one of us has 12% quicker skills, more skills and more ship abilities.

In Total War terms, imagine we both have the same unit of archers. Just happens I've played more games with that race, so not only do I have more experience due to the games my archers also fire 12% faster and have 30% more range. Not only that my archers also have a power that lets them stun yours. And both units cost the same amount of points to field. Yes you get a 20% bonus to your points, this allows you to take an extra peasant unit. That has no upgrades.

Would you hang around and keep playing the game? Doubtful, unless you really liked the game. Even then it would be a struggle for you to get to a point where you can compete with the other players.

Usually to that end if my opponent is vastly under leveled or whatnot, unless they bm or whine then I'll give them a mercy killing by not fleet wiping them.

If they do whine or bm though, I tend to wreck them then says something a little bm like "ez" or "git gud".

But that's only in the worst cases, I'd rather be nice and try to help so noobs don't just quit the game.
