How much do you right click(to auto use)

Postby Spector » 08 April 2016, 12:22

The few videos I have watched people play BFGA I have noticed most of those players use quite a lot of "right click to auto use".

I on the other had, almost never use right click on any skill or ability. Because I see a lot of potential for wasted skills or abilities at the wrong time, also I don't trust the AI to do the right thing at the right time.

So, what is your take on this? What do you let auto use and what do you always use manually?

There is, generally, only a handful of skills I have set to autocast. And these are never on autocast on data recovery.

A: Boarding;
B: Bad Moon Shokk Attak (I'll begin autocasting it once it doesn't recover data anymore.)
C: Bombers or Assault Boats (After launching fighters)

I use it only on boarding and ordinances in combination with priority targets for bombers/assault boats

Though I am on the verge of not using it anymore on ordinances, since it is bugged.
Not that they don't launch, but they cancel the current selection from time to time, which can be pretty annoying when you want to use abilities, etc.
I play Orkz to collect all those salty Imperial tears

Autocast has great synergy with the priority system. Sure, if all you see of the enemy is some red blips, autocasting will probably waste your skills on escorts or something, but once you know which enemy is what and set the priorities, autocast will save abilities for high priority targets instead of spamming them on cooldown, which means if you want to use something on a lower priority target, the ability might still be currently available.

For example, if torpedoes are on auto and you have a priority 1 target designated, the AI won't just fart out a spread and waste the cooldown on an escort that crosses in front of the vessel, so you can take over in a pinch and line up a shot yourself since the torps aren't wasted.

Overcharged void shield is bad to autocast because the AI will blow it as soon as it takes some damage even if you just get plinked by a lone escort.

Once you know how the AI handels different skills, autocast is real handy.

super charged void shields is cast at half of your shields. so a escort wont trigger it. a nova cannon shot may at long range so best to not auto cast v imps till your closer.

I pretty much only use it on boarding, though I didn't know you could use it on torpedoes. But I think i'd be too worried about them torpedoing each other.

I autocast ordinance, void shield transfers, and sometimes the static beacon.

But learning the hotkeys helps alot.

Brace for Impact - when against Orks, or when I'm heading into a brawl. It looks to active just before you're rammed, I'm not sure how much DPS causes it to start.

Fire Order - this is my default if I'm not setting brace for impact, unless the ship is my carrier. Then it's reload.

Lightning Strike - Never as I use to to stop ships running away or for data capture.

Boarding - When looking at a potential brawl, and not on data capture, I tend to set this. Although I will switch it off before it's used if I think I need to stop ships from jumping out.

Repairs - I'm quite lazy with this and tend to have it on, I know I shouldn't so that I can deal with fires quicker but I often forget to repair my ships if I don't.

Bombers - As soon as my CAP is out I right click on bombers. Sometimes they don't launch though so I need to keep an eye on the initial potential attack.

Any offensive weapon/AoE - never. I spam stasis like it's going out of fashion, and although the AI is quite good at placing it I prefer to have total control over it.

All in all I view the auto cast as a useful tool as above. When I run a large fleet it's very helpful.

I use it for my lightning strikes; I'm not great at multitasking so I tend to forget about it during engagements.
Lock on: I love shooting things from afar and its neat cause now I can't forget about it and get accuracy boost.

I just started playing and reading up on things/playing skirmish really broadens a horizon.

I think the Right click Auto is a awesome feature, that way a player can't overload during battles.
