Finally got the weapons and skin! I know its not phenomenal, but I'm happy I managed to keep a lot of the details on the model. Of course, details on Tyranid models are HUGE, so that was in my favor.

Now its time for the Wash: Carroburg Crimson. They say a good wash can transform a model, and that's what I'm banking on. I have some time before I apply it, so do you guys have any tips?

yes, try it on leftover parts of your model and experiment a bit before using the actual model. that way you see what you will get out of it

My turn: Techpriest Dominus and Skitarii Vanguard

@Owl Unfortunately, you have made a fundamental mistake. You haven't filled gaps and removed mold lines. You can see the mold line on the tail and gaps on "exhaust pipes".

@Grey Seer: The Vanguard remind of a bunch of futuristic badasses ripped from 80's sci-fi movies. Which is freakin awesome.
And yeahhhhh, I wandered how I was supposed to fix those lines. Thank god the paint masks them now. Speaking of which...

I screwed up. And it is awesome.

So all that pinkness? its supposed to be white. Lessons were learned, but too late for me to clean up the wash I had already painted on; so I rolled with it. It's not what I had in mind, but its growing on me! It looks a little less alien, a lot more primal.

And it honestly looks like my Hive Tyrant has no skin.

Hopefully the purple on the carapace will balance out all this redness.

Gaps when not big can be sanded with a sanding stick.

While I am grateful for the videos, I think my main issue was that the skin color was too dark for me, and it looked more like yellowed bone than the Hive Fleet Leviathan White. I thought the Wash would "magically" bring out the white in the paint, but obviously that is not how this works! Ahh well, I think I'll paint my next Tyranid models as normal, and keep my Hive Tyrant as a unique looking commander.

oh yeah sorry thought it was obvious but a wash will alter the colour of the model (which BTW can be used to awesome effect, a brown wash for example can make a model look dirty) but no worries just go over the pink with a few coats of white.
