Battleship in WH = Battleship in real life (IRL)
Grand Cruisers in WH = Battlecruisers IRL (more like "german WW1 like battlecruisers, with battleship-grade armor and cruiser-grade speed) - ships with tougher armour then the cruisers, able to withstand fire from battleships and deal damage to the battleships in conventional combat. 3 shields, 10HP, 3 anti-smallcraft turrets, 20sm speed and pretty good arnament, making it "poor man battleship"
Battlecruisers in WH = Panzershiffe IRL, or "heavy cruiser with heavier then usual weaponry with same armour and mobility as regular heavy cruiser". As we know, Panzershiffe, like Deutschland/Lutzov had 283mm cannons, when their counterpart heavy cruisers, because of limitations of Washington Treaty, could only have 203mm cannons, which made them pretty outgunned against german "heavy armed heavy cruiser". And, just like that, in WH battlecruiser have same armour, speed, anti-craft turrets and shields as cruisers, but have much more (or not so much) stronger weaponry.
Cruiser in WH = Heavy cruiser IRL, because IRL there is not such thing as "usual cruiser", there only light or heavy cruiser. Cruisers of BFG is pretty heavy, based on armour and firepower, and we also have separate light cruiser class, so this effectively put BFG cruiser into heavy category.
Light cruiser in WH = light cruiser IRl. Nuff said.
Frigates and other also pretty much the same.

What do you thing about our classification?

I'm getting to Grand cruisers last, they're a good link into Chaos warships.

And the classifications are quite accurate in many cases. A few out layers (Mercury and Chalice, both more like British BCs, the fact that few would be 'aviation cruisers' and 'aviation battleships' are present), but otherwise they do fit generally.

Frigates irl where close escorts for convoys to defend against subs, air attack and destroyers while destroyers where scouts and an absolute menace to anything on (or under) the ocean.
So that's another things that's iffy in 40K, but mostly fits.

BFG is based on British classification, thus, Battlecruisers fit the original, British designation better (light armour/battleship guns/blistering speed).

The Grand Cruisers fit into what I would assume is the German designation better, which is what the Admiralty would refer to as a "Heavy Cruiser"; Cruiser grade armament with heavier armour, but similar mobility

Very good so far!

With only the Victory battleship left, will you do escorts than grand cruisers and swithc to Chaos?

Or escorts, than Space marine escorts, than Strike cruisers and battlebarges, than Grand cruisers and switch to Khay-oss?

Please help me change skirmish to be customisable. Its very important for PVE players.

I've finished with the Battleships I'll be covering.
After this will be light cruisers, escorts and grand cruisers in that order: then I'll do chaos, space marines (in that order), and the Orks and Eldar (not ordered yet).

No idea what I'll be doing after that.

Hey Cal! I know what you will be doing after this. Building your own fleet(s) and playing BFG. What are you looking forward to most, Campaign, Skirmish or Multi-player? Or all 3? As knowledgeable as you are with ships and their 'roles' I have to think you may be a good fleet builder and tactician. In any case, keep up the good work!

Honestly looking forward to everything in the game.
I want to see how they portray Battlefleet Gothic and the Gothic War, I want to build my own fleets and I want to see BFG become more popular with the masses.

But yes, if I had to pick one aspect I enjoy most, its fleet crafting: testing how accurate they are, how they interact with each other, and maximising fleet efficiency with different ship class and type combinations. :)

I know its just an Apocalypse replacement (With better range!), but should I do a guest entry for the Victory one than?

You're welcome to, I've just finished the Light cruisers, so if you do it now it shouldn't disturb my flow too much.
Although if you do, I'd like to see it and approve it first, so post it in its own thread before you put it straight onto the pinned topic.

Sure. I should be able to post it here? And you can copy it. Just feels incomplete to leave one battleship out. People usually just include them all, or only the 2 basic ones.

Victory class battleship

The Victory-class Battleship is suspected to be a modified Retribution-class Battleship.
In its internal layout, the Victory-class greatly resembles the Retribution-class. It is possible that this design is the product of grafting Lance weapons systems onto a Retribution template in an attempt to replicate the successful Apocalypse-class Battleship.
However, a key difference between the two classes of Battleship is the substantial number of Lance systems present on the Victory-class in place of the Retribution's large number of Macrocannons.
The Tech-priests of Mars refuse all requests for access to their records by historians of the Imperial Navy, so the origin of this class remains unclear, though one vessel, the Conqueror, is known to have particularly distinguished itself during the Great Crusade in the late 30th Millennium to bring the Emperor's light to the galaxy after the end of the Age of Strife. When Hive Fleet Behemoth, the first major Tyranid Hive Fleet encountered by the Imperium of Man in 745.M41, four Victory-class Battleships met the threat of the Behemoth -- the Victory, Argus, Conqueror, and Hammer of Scaro. The Hammer of Scaro sustained damage to its Nova cannon while ramming the ork Space Hulk Gungedrinka and had it replaced by torpedo launchers.

To the casual observer, armed with broadside Lances, dorsal Macrocannons and a prow Nova cannon, the Victory class seems almost indistinguishible from the Apocalypse class. However, a key difference lay in the range of the Lances. The Victory's lances were only two-thirds as powerful as the Apocalypse's, however they posses twice the range.
This allows the Victory class to excel at long range bombardment, a role that the Imperial Navy has few ships that can fulfill very well. While unable to match the damage output of the Apocalypse up close, it can engage a foe with the lances without letting them get into the minimal range of the Nova cannon, and thus is able to always utilise its full armament.
It is possible that the ship's class was named after the Tribune, an Imperial Fists warship, but that ship's schematics resemble an extremely heavily modified Retribution class more.

I'll make modifications to the picture and slot it in as a bonus profile when I find a space for it.
