But it is hardly a comparison if you use outdated info is it? Plus powercreep does outdate weaker things. Look at the three Death stars to see how they always outdate one another, with the last one being practically invincible and unstoppable for anything but plot.
And that's before stuff you just put in arbitrarily there. I mean, there has been no known instance for example of any Imperial or Imperium ship going as fast as light or even faster. In fact if they could do that, they would have no need for hyperdrives or warp engines.
So at least I think it would be fair to tell these things at the start of the thread. Though again, the more modern stuff would work if you used an escort, and not a full on cruiser.

For the record, I believe that was counting hyperdrive and short-distance warp.
It is still a comparison, though, I'd say, and the difference with 40k is that the power creep is retconned, not actual technological advancement.
Using the high end calcs of one and the low and of the other is already admitting that the one beats the other. Star Wars versus 40k in general has been done a thousand times, and it's obvious that 40k is more over the top than Star Wars. But you can't get interesting comparisons if you just leave it at that.
Although, one thing that makes me rather smug about the whole thing is that the Tau are therefore dealing with similar power levels.

The Tau generally don't face much... attention from the "meaner" factions like Necrons and Chaos. They get at worst, a case of nids that are already being fought by the Imperials.
I also don't think those numbers are FTL, since Hyperdrive is faster than Warp (Hyperdriving the same distance takes days that would take warp weeks) so ISD should not be ten times slower, rather the opposite, and even than 25C would be way too low for either.
It would mean making 25 times light speed, which would make one lightyear take around half a month. Which means the closest stars would still be months away, and that's just jumping to Alpha Centauri-like closeness.
